Australia Sections Founder’s Day Lunch 2003 – Roger Wickins
This year we deferred our Founder's Day celebration due to the fact that the OBRFC had organised a supporters tour to the Rugby World Cup. Steve Webb (Col A 60-69), led this.
We also changed the format from a dinner to a luncheon cruise on Sydney Harbour on Saturday the 15th November on the vessel "Sydney 2000". Sixty-seven persons attended. The weather was perfect and we had a private room and a private deck upon which pre luncheon drinks were served.
It was very enjoyable to meet those from UK, some of who were not in fact Old Blues but who were part of the tour party.
The catering staff on the vessel inadvertently left the saloon doors open and the other passengers were surprised by a lusty rendition of the Votum followed by the School hymn ably lead by our Three Terrors, [left-to-right: Paddy Castledine (Ma A, Mid B 76-83), Dudley Williams, (Pe A 37-45) and Geoff Hines(La B 51-59)]. We were also greatly appreciative of the best wishes from the Treasurer, David Farrington, relayed by Steve Webb.

As well as the overseas visitors we were happy to see Old Blues from Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra and country areas of NSW.
As an additional toast we raised our glasses to Peter Zappert (Pe B 55-62) who is currently sailing his catamaran "Charley" round the world and should hopefully be heading across the Indian Ocean in the direction of the Red Sea and Port Suez.
The celebration was a great success and some of the visitors from the UK remarked on the relaxed atmosphere of the celebration.
A number of the NSW Old Blues have requested that we repeat the exercise next year so a provisional booking for lunch has been placed for Saturday the 23rd October 2004.
