British Columba Section Founder’s Day Lunch 2005 – Chris Johnson
The British Columbia Old Blues section held its Founder’s Day lunch on November 12th at the home of Chris and Toula Johnson in Nanaimo. Ten Old Blues and their spouses, a rather smaller number than usual, came from the mainland and from Vancouver Island to celebrate the occasion.
As is our custom the day started with sherry and appetizers giving everyone a chance to catch up on each other’s news. After a delicious meal, followed by toasts to the Queen and Housey, we toasted our most senior Old Blue, Douglas Brodie (Pe B 14–18) who celebrated his 103rd birthday in October and our second most senior Old Blue, Ken Le Page (Ma A 23–29) who celebrated his 93rd birthday in August. We are a rather elderly group with our youngest member fast approaching 60 years old!
This year was the 75th anniversary of the founding of the B.C. branch (section) of the (previous) Old Blues Club. Founder’s Day has been celebrated every year since 1930 and a record of every meeting has been kept except for the war years. Starting in 1951 we have had a get-together every summer.
Our next gathering will be in June at the home of Jerry and Ruth Fitzpatrick in Parksville.
