Second Annual CHA Christmas Carol Concert
Wednesday 13th December, St Sepulchre-without-Newgate, London
The Church of St Sepulchre-without-Newgate, London
Nearly 300 Old Blues arrived with their family and friends arrived at the historic church in central London to enjoy an evening of festive entertainment organised and performed by their fellow Old Blues. The Bishop of St Albans popped in on his way to a function to wish the CHA the very best for the concert, and expressed his regret that he couldn’t stay.
Music included For Unto Us a Child is Born from Handel’s Messiah and the old CH Favourite Eastern Monarchs, Sages Three. Roger Martin rose to the occasion with his wonderful solo of The First Mercy, by Peter Warlock.
The Reverend Jonathan Kester gave a moving speech about his experiences at Housey and the importance of the Necessitous Children’s Fund. The retiring collection at the concert raised over £1200 for this excellent cause.
Following the concert, everyone enjoyed a glass of warming mulled wine and a mince pie while they stayed to chat and enjoy the festive atmosphere of the church. Many also continued the Christmas spirit to the Bishop’s Finger pub just down the road from the church, with Old Blues of all ages sharing a drink and their memories of Christ’s Hospital.
You can see from the images in this gallery that a good time was had by all.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the CHA!
