Old Blues Email News 2 June 2002

1. CH participation in the Queen's Jubilee Celebrations

A message from the Treasurer, Mrs Susan Mitchell:

Steve: We have had some most exciting news which you might care to broadcast through your e-mail system and OB website.

We heard recently that the Senior Grecian Sandra Bamfo, Second Monitor Matthew Adams and the Headmaster Dr Peter Southern have been invited to the Jubilee lunch at the Guildhall in the City of London on Tuesday 4th June. It's one of the highlights of the jubilee celebrations to be attended by Her Majesty and several hundred others of almost equal eminence.

Next we received news that the two Grecians will be seated on the top table and today we hear that Sandra (Senior Grecian) is to be seated next to the Prime Minister, who will himself be giving one of the speeches.

The event is due to be televised on the two main UK channels. Old Blues might wish to organise their jubilee TV viewing to join several millions of other viewers and take in this exceptional occasion for seeing CH represented in such august company on this unique occasion. Those who may not know Sandra Bamfo will recognise the uniform and, I expect, be able to admire one of Sandra's stunning hairstyles and lovely smile.

Sandra's outstanding oration on Speech Day included her announcement that she plans to become a lawyer after university; those who know her are not in any doubt that she will achieve her ambitions.

I also understand that a small contingent from CH will be amongst the many musical groups who will be playing along the route of the Queen's procession on Tuesday, but unfortunately have no further details.

2. Old 4's

During September 2001, seven Old 4's stayed with Elisabeth Mobbs on Arran. They had a great time walking, cycling, reminiscing, etc.

While they were on Arran, Hazel Ingram and Jennifer Thompson (nee Butcher) decided to run the Old 4's reunion. Subsequently a reunion Tea was held in April this year at Christ Church, Blackfriars Road, London. This Tea was attended by 34 people aged between 12 weeks and 82 years.

Everyone enjoyed the Reunion and it was decided to hold a Tea in the same large hall at Christ Church next year on Saturday, 5th April. Invitations will be sent out at the beginning of February, 2003. If any Old 4 has a new address, news, or suspects that she is not on the mailing list, please could she contact either Hazel Ingram by email or telephone 0208 870 5413 or Jennifer Thompson by telephone on 01491 839 562.

4. Beating Retreat

The school have stated that as they had a public event this year on Centenary Day, Beating Retreat in July will be a private school occasion to celebrate the end of the school year. It will therefore be attended by pupils, parents and staff, plus some invited guests. Your recognition of this would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Steve Webb (Col A 60-69)
