Keith Battarbee (CH late 50s) teaches English at Turku University, Finland, and chairs the Finland chapter of the Nordic Association for Canadian Studies.
Jill Blewett (Myford, 7’s 49–56), who died in Australia in 1988, is commemorated there by the Jill Blewett Playwright’s Award and an annual lecture at the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators.
Dan Bourne (Ma A B, MA 87–94) is working for BP in Alaska.
Royston Brunst (Mid B 43–51) is President of the Vancouver Cornish Association.
Dickie Dawe (Horsham Staff 63–77) is a trustee of the Joint Educational Trust.
Lt–Col John Dymoke (Col B 37–43) received the Duchess of Gloucester (wife of the President) and the Duke of Edinburgh when they visited Lincolnshire in March.
Patrick Emerson (Mid A 81–88), who is apparently in Hollywood, welcomed a son, Luke Sebastian, on 25 November.
Norman Guthkelch (La A 24–33) is still teaching neurology at the University of Kansas Medical School, Wichita. In his spare time he works as ombudsman for a long term care facility and also enjoys gardening.
David Hall–Matthews (CH c. 1980), son of the Rev John Hall–Matthews (Horsham Assistant Chaplain 65–72), contested Leeds North West for the Liberal Democrats at the General Election. He is Lecturer in Development Studies at Leeds University.
Sue Hazelden (7’s 67/8–72) is the team administrator at Knightstone Housing Association, Bristol, and is also administrator of Europe Now, an organisation training evangelists.
The Rev Dr Charles Hedley (Ma A B 57–66) officiated at memorial services for the diplomat and Tibetanist Hugh Richardson (27 March) and for Walter Hayes, life president of Aston Martin Lagonda (18 April).
Rebecca James (5’s 77–84) is a barrister in the chambers of James Townend QC, specialising in family law and general common law.
Simon Keyes (Mid A 65–71) is Executive Director of the World Community for Christian Meditation. His professional background has been mainly in voluntary sector (i.e. NGO or non-profit) social work in the fields of homelessness, crime and mental health in Britain. His last two posts involved setting up and managing new agencies to test new approaches to helping vulnerable people caught up in the criminal justice system.
Philip Kitcher (Pe A 58–66) has been Professor of Philosophy at Columbia University since 1999, following posts at Vassar College and the Universities of Vermont, Minnesota and California at San Diego (where he was Presidential Professor of Philosophy). His speciality is the philosophy of science. His many publications include Abusing Science: The Case Against Creationism, The Advancement of Science and The Lives to Come: The Genetic Revolution and Human Possibilities.
Richard Knight (Pe A 76–83) has moved from Dean Close School to be head of music at Millfield.
Gregory Knopp (Pe B 51–57) contested Chatham and Aylesford for the UK Independence Party at the General Election. He is a self-employed marketing consultant who stood previously for the Liberal Party in Tonbridge in 1979.
Richard Leeming (La A B/MA 78–85), a commercial lawyer with Burges Salmon, was made a partner last year.
Martin Linton (Th A 54/5–62) retained his seat as Labour MP for Battersea at the General Election.
The Rev Bruce Lyons (Th A 49–54) has returned from Ostend and is a non-stipendiary minister in the Deanery of Newbury.
Damien Morley (CH 90s) is the Midlands regional contact for the Roman Catholic organisation “Youth 2000”.
David Norgrove (Th B 57–67) has joined the board of Marks and Spencer as Executive Director, Strategy, International & Ventures. His previous career includes HM Treasury, where he rose to Assistant Secretary; the First National Bank of Chicago; and 10 Downing Street, where he was Private Secretary to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher from 1985 until 1988.
Rowland Penfold (La A B 57–64) was one of the winners of the DATA Awards inaugurated last year by the Design and Technology Association, for his contribution to teacher training in the subject. He has worked in the advisory service in Hertfordshire since 1988, after a distinguished career as a teacher.
Henry Pim (Col A 56–65) is a fulltime lecturer on ceramics at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.
Rear Admiral Ian Pirnie (Pe B 46–53) retired last year as Chairman of Furness Enterprise.
Tony Pletts (Col B 72–79) won last year’s STA Travel/Time Out travel writing competition with his account of a (voluntary) visit to San Pedro Penitentiary, La Paz.
Katherine Pogson (8’s 76–81) started out as a theatrical designer but changed course and now creates “organic leather forms both for interiors and for the body”. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1998 and is reportedly creating a home accessories line for Donna Karan.
The Rev John Robson (Horsham Chaplain 62–80) officiated at a service of thanksgiving for the life of Sir Walter Verco, former Secretary of the Order of the Garter and Secretary to the Earl Marshal, on 31 May.
The Rev Geoffrey Roper (Mid A 50–58) read the prayers at the Commonwealth Day Observance Service in Westminster Abbey on 13 March.
Professor Christopher Rowe (Ma A B 54–62) is joint editor of The Cambridge History of Greek and Roman Political Thought and the Academia Verlag Plato series (Bonn), a member of the consultative committee of Méthexis (Buenos Aires) and a member of the editorial boards of History of Political Thought and Journal of Hellenic Studies. He is also an Editor of Phronesis and has been a Fellow at the Centre for Hellenic Studies in Washington and at the Institute for Research in the Humanities, Wisconsin-Madison.
The Rt Rev Geoffrey Rowell (Almoner 78–90) is Bishop-designate of Gibraltar in Europe.
Dr Stanley Shepherd (Pe A 56–63, Governor) is chairman of Betterhealth Global Ltd UK.
Dennis Silk (Ma A 42–50, President CH Club 90–95) has been appointed Governor, Sixth Wicket Down, of I Zingari.
William Tarnow–Mordi (La A B 61–68) is Professor of Neonatal Medicine at the University of Sydney, NSW.
Rodney Tillotson (Ma A B 56–65) has worked for the United Kingdom Education and Research Networking Association since it was set up in 1994. Until January he was head of its Value Added Services section; he is now active in work to control internet junk mail.
Isabel Tresham (Ba A 91–98) is a beginners’ officer, social secretary and development officer for the University of Newcastle sailing club.
Rick Wakeham (Ma A/B 88–95) is captain of the Commoners Football Club, Southampton.
Tim Warren (LHA 83–90) studied Maths and Computing at Oxford, worked for the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club and Hong Kong Telecom IMS and is now co-founder and Vice-President (Engineering) of Entone Technologies.
Professor Simon White FRS (Pe B 62–68) received last year’s Max Planck Research Award for Physics. One of the world’s most influential astrophysicists, he is director of the Max Planck Institute in Garching and an honorary professor at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the Shanghai Astronomical Observatory.
The Rev Dr Philip Willenbrock (La A B 52–61) teaches science at St Benedict’s College, Colchester.
