Holiday Accommodation

Simon Gibbs (Ma B, Ma A 1983-90) has a stunning villa for rent in the beautiful Mediterranean harbour village of Kalkan, southwest Turkey. This spacious bougainvillea draped villa is not your typical holiday villa but an airy house in a quiet location. The lush garden is planted with mature fruit trees including olive, lemon, peach and mulberry.

Within five minutes' walk of a shop, pharmacy and health centre. Ten minutes' walk to the village and a very large choice of restaurants. Huge rooftop terrace (possibly the largest privately owned in Kalkan), perfect for sunbathing in the day and enjoying aperitifs in the evening watching the sunset over Kalkan Bay. Wonderful views over Kalkan Bay from all bedrooms on the first floor and roof terrace. Private balconies to both front and rear of two large bedrooms on first floor and to rear of ground floor bedroom.

This house was built as a traditional Turkish family home and is now being sympathetically updated to the highest standard for the 2005 season (final details will be placed on the website). The discerning traveller will find comfort combined with a traditional feel lacking in many "holiday villas". Five bedrooms and three bath/shower rooms. Small private swimming pool and large terraced areas for dining, relaxing, reading and sunbathing. Sleeps up to 10.

Wine

Keith Walker (Pe A 64-70) has just started a new business with a couple of friends importing and selling wine (and some Russian vodka) both wholesale and retail. He writes:

The retail operation will mostly be via the internet and we have a test site at www.worldofwine.com. The company is World of Wine Limited and at the moment we have wines from Portugal, the South of France and shortly from Italy as well. Our range will be ever expanding but we will be concentrating on niche vineyards in Europe and especially Portugal and France and Italy. In addition we have exclusive distribution rights for part of the UK for Sputnik Vodka. Old Blues will, I am sure, like to avail themselves of good quality wine unavailable elsewhere – you saw it here first!!

I can be contacted at 48 Fore Street, Chard, Somerset, TA20 1QA (01460 67744) although when we are in our new warehouse and office complex in Ilminster the contact details will change.
