Sports Clubs
Introduction & Welcome
Bethan Keall Barnes A 1992–1996
“Since leaving Christ’s Hospital I have continued to be involved in team sport and owe this in no small part to the school’s influence. Sport was a very important part of my life at CH. The team spirit that we could rely on always gave us a special sense of understanding during games. It was great to be part of a team, to be able to channel your energy and create strong social bonds both on and off the pitch. Those values are equally relevant in the real world and I have been able to draw on these ever since. This Club is as much about the ‘social’ as anything else and that is why getting Old Blues together for the odd friendly game of hockey or netball would be a good way of renewing old friendships and common bonds.”

“There are many lessons to be learnt from the sporting community and culture like the one found at Christ’s Hospital. Participating in sport at CH helped me to grow as a person. I was taught the benefits of self discipline, respect, fairplay, and teamwork. I learnt how to win, how to lose, how to prepare, and how not to! I learnt that you can give everything and still lose, or give nothing and win. Sport is a paradox; frustrating yet rewarding, challenging yet easy, forgiving yet brutal, but never the same!
Christ’s Hospital set me on a pathway to sporting success; with help from experienced coaches/teachers and amazing facilities. The lessons I learnt and experiences I shared are some of my most cherished and I am thankful for the opportunity to give a little back to CH sport. We kindly invite you to join us“
Girls’ Sport at CH

As PE teachers at Christ’s Hospital, we have worked hard to promote all the major games and activities for girls with enthusiasm and passion. Thinking back to 1985 (after the move from Hertford), the fixture list for all girls’ sports was virtually non-existent.
Now, we can reflect with pride that we can field over 20 Hockey and Netball teams alone, with many schools wanting us on their fixture list. Moreover, we are as a school, delighted to see so many develop their skills and talent and go on to represent County and SE England.

To create a ‘Sporting Club’, that brings together those Old Blue girls that started their love of sport here at CH, and allows reunion as well as an interest and enthusiasm about the present and future development of girls’ sport at the school, means a great deal to both of us.”
In short, the ‘Sporting Club’ gives us the opportunity to:
- Keep in touch and share our experiences and interests in sport both at CH and outside
- Keep everyone up to date with activities and events, and provide opportunities for Old Blue fixtures here at the school, and the chance to meet up and socialise
- Build stronger ties and bonds with our alumni sportswomen
