East Sussex Section

UPDATED:- 4th January 2010

If anyone has been reading and keeping up with the East Sussex section then they would already know that we have had a very unsettled year in 2009; as previously mentioned we were forced to find an alternative venue for our monthly lunches when our regular pub became a victim of the credit crunch and closed very suddenly and without warning.  We have since struggled to find another pub that we were all agreed on – and one that could accommodate us on a regular basis!

We have eventually found the ideal alternative venue at The Cock Inn near Lewes and have booked for the first Wednesday of every month throughout 2010. (Our usual day has at least remained the same!)  The Cock Inn is situated just beside the A26 between Lewes and Uckfield and their address is: Uckfield Road, Nr Ringmer, East Sussex. BN8 5RX and their website link is: www.cockpub.co.uk.

We are a very informal group consisting of regularly around sixteen to seventeen Old Blues and partners and our CH years vary from the 1940’s to the 1960’s.  We are always happy to welcome new faces, so if you have recently moved to the area and are free to join us please come along and meet us.  If you would like more information first please feel free to ring me on 01825 840727, I work full time but have an answer machine so if you leave your name and number I will call you back, alternatively you can email me at: sw1303@hotmail.com.  We would also like to welcome any Old Blues who are on holiday in the area.

We meet at the pub between twelve and twelve thirty and as we order our meals from the bar on arrival there is no need to book anything ahead, but for anyone wanting to attend the Christmas meal I do need to know numbers and menu choices at least two weeks before the December lunch. During the summer months we also enjoy a couple of outings, usually to National Trust properties in the area.

I look forward to a more settled year in 2010 and to more lively and fun lunches with regulars and, hopefully, some new faces too!

The East Sussex group has, unfortunately, been forced to move again.

We have been very happy meeting at the Cock Inn near Lewes for the last few months, but as they have become very popular and busy it has been increasingly difficult to accommodate us, especially as our number has been swelling!  We have, therefore, re-located to the Old Ship Inn, which is also on the A26 Lewes to Uckfield road, approximately 500 yards from The Cock Inn.  Their website for anyone who would like to check them out is: www.oldshippub.co.uk.   We will meet at The Cock Inn for the last time on the 2nd September 2009 and from the 7th October 2009 we will be meeting on the first Wednesday of every month (as before) at the Old Ship Inn.

Our group is very informal – we gather around 12.15 and order our chosen food and drinks from the bar on arrival, then all sit together, inside or out (depending on our wonderful English weather!) and enjoy each other’s company for the next couple of hours or so.  We have Old Blues from Horsham and Hertford and we have quite a large age range.  We welcome partners and friends, of whom there are usually quite a few, and the number regularly attending is around sixteen to twenty.

We try to have at least one outing a year, in the summer.  This is usually planned for the third Wednesday of the chosen month, although this year we will be including a weekend as well; all suggestions for venues more than welcome!

We also have a very informal Christmas lunch on the first Wednesday of December with much hilarity and joviality – this is the only time I need to know numbers in advance as the pub likes us to order the festive fare at least one week beforehand, they provide a very adequate three course meal for around £20.00 a head.

I would be very pleased to welcome new members, if anyone has recently moved into the area or has retired and would like to come along, please do give me a ring on 01825 840727 or alternatively you can email me at: sw1303@hotmail.com.

We all look forward to greeting you!
