October Dinner re-arranged (letter)
Sadly, the dinner arranged for the 8th October had to be postponed but we have now re-arranged it and do hope that you will be able to attend.
Our Annual Dinner will now be held at Newbury Rugby Club, Newbury on Friday 3rd December at 7pm for 7.30pm.
A reminder to those who haven’t already sent in their subscriptions, that to cover administration costs, we ask for a small annual subscription to cover postage and other such costs that are not donated. The subscription also subsidises six guests at the Founder’s Day Dinner, namely, two staff, two scholars from the school and two local dignitaries. The subscription also pays for the Association’s gift at the Mayor’s Carol Service. We suggest for one person, a subscription of £7.50 and for one family, £15 (parents and children).
These subscriptions do not cover all the costs so those who wish to, are invited to send us an additional £5. We also appreciate that some people may feel that this is too much but please join anyway and send us what you think to be appropriate. It is more important to meet other parents with children at the school and for those who are Old Blues to compare notes with their contemporaries!
The price of tickets for the dinner will be £30.00 per head. This year we are also offering tickets to under 25 year olds of £10 each. Drinks may be bought from the bar.
I enclose a menu choice which I would be pleased if you could return to me as soon as possible.
Anyone who has difficulties in transportation to and from the dinner, please contact Mary Davenport (01488 668287 or mary_davenport@hotmail.com) and we will see what can be done to help.
The Association is open to Old Blues, kin, friends, parents and current pupils. In the past we have held two functions a year; a coffee morning in May and a dinner in October to celebrate Founder’s Day. We usually invite local dignitaries such as the Mayor of Newbury and a representative of the School to the Dinner. Two current pupils, a girl and a boy, speak on “What Christ’s Hospital means to me”. We aim to encourage continuing links between Newbury and Christ’s Hospital. The Mayor of Newbury invites current scholars to the Mayor’s Carol Service in December. They attend in full uniform and march from the Town Hall to St Nicholas’ Church for the carol service and then attend a short reception in the Mayor’s Parlour when they are presented with a small gift from the Mayor of Newbury. He also hands them a small gift from the Newbury Old Blues Association.
