North & Scotland Sections
Yorkshire Old Blues
Many thanks to those of you who were able to join us at Monk Fryston a couple of weeks ago - it was a lovely occasion and great to meet some new people too. We have a few dates already in place for next year, so if you have a new diary/calendar to hand please make a note of these. There are two lunch dates (June and November) and a December Carol Service & Tea date. Please remember that we are always open to ideas of local gatherings as we are aware of the distances some of you have to travel to our larger events. Some suggestions we have had for Spring/Summer local get-togethers include pub lunches near York and in the Dales, a visit to Scampston Walled Garden near Malton and a trip on the North York Moors Railway. More details will follow regarding these...
We really hope that everybody is able to make it to something next year - we will try to vary the programme a little to include a walk, a quiz and some more visiting speakers. As there is no current North East Old Blues Section we are also hoping to be joined by some more new faces from a bit further north too....
Dates for your 2011 diary:
Saturday 4th June 2011 - Lunch at Rudding Park Hotel (luxury award winning hotel near Harrogate). Peter Banks has very kindly invited us to Rudding Park again, as we had such a lovely time there in June. In addition, if anybody fancies making a weekend of it, he has offered us an extremely good deal for an overnight stay - £90 for a room (2 people B&B) - there is a golf course, gardens and the spa will be completed by then... I will be in touch early in the new year about this, as we will need to book the rooms well in advance for anyone who wants to stay.
Saturday 19th November 2011 - Lunch (venue to be decided nearer the time - suggestions welcome for anywhere reasonably central and accessible)
Friday 23rd December 2011 - Afternoon visit to Ripon Cathedral, tea in the Cathedral Hall and Carol Service at 5.30pm as guests of the Dean (kindly arranged by Canon Simon Hoare)
We hope you all have a great Christmas and New Year, and we will be in touch again in a couple of months regarding the Rudding Park arrangements.
Best wishes
Megan and Tim

We now have around 30 people joining us for lunch on Saturday 13th November, which is great! Please find a link to the menu, I would be extremely grateful if you could let me know your choices (3 courses) as soon as possible, and not later than 31st October. Please aim to arrive anytime from 11.45am, and the lunch will be served at 12.30pm.
Please could you also send a cheque for £20 made payable to Monk Fryston Hall Hotel to my home address as soon as possible:

York, YO32 3GL
For those of you who have said you are not yet sure whether you will definitely be coming to the lunch, please don't worry about paying or choosing from the menu until nearer the time, however I will need to know if you are coming at the latest 10 days prior to the event.
Monk Fryston Hall Hotel : http://www.monkfrystonhallhotel.co.uk is on the A63 (Selby road) just a couple of miles from J42 of the A1(M) which is close to the junctions of the A1(M) with both the M62 and the M1. It is also very close to South Milford rail station, which has direct trains from Leeds. We can organise lifts for anyone coming by train.
The lunch will begin at 11.45, for a 12.30pm sitting and we will have exclusive use of the hotel's restaurant on the day.
If you would like to come, but think you may need help with transport, please let us know, as we have several people in different locations who are happy to offer lifts - so we will try our best to help.

The lunch will begin at 11.45, for a 12.30pm sitting and we will have exclusive use of the hotel's restaurant on the day. They have offered us a 3-course lunch, with coffee for £20 per person. Like last time, we will sort out money and menu orders closer to the time.
So that we can confirm the booking with the hotel (and get the best deal!) we need to ensure that we have a minimum number of people, so I would be really grateful if you could indicate whether or not you think you will be able to come (no firm commitment at this time - I just need an idea of numbers.) Please let me know by Sunday 19th September if you are planning to join us on the day, and then we will be back in touch with more details after that.
If you would like to join us, please call Megan on 01904 766683 or email yorkshireoldblues@googlemail.com
June 2010: -
The Yorkshire group is up and running again, co-ordinated by Megan Godden (nee Fisher - 88-95) and Tim Benjamin (87-94) with around 50 current members, of all
ages. A very successful first event was held recently in Harrogate and another
lunchtime event is planned for Saturday 13th November 2010. It is hoped that 2-3
main events will take place annually around the county, with smaller informal
get-togethers being planned in local areas in addition to these. If you would
like to join us, please call Megan on 01904 766683 or email

Feb 2010:-
Tim Benjamin (87-95) and Megan Godden (nee Fisher 88-95) are in the process of trying to set up a Yorkshire Old Blues section. We would love to hear from Old Blues living in Yorkshire who would be interested in coming along to a get-together. We plan to organise 2-3 events per year and these will hopefully be in different locations across the county to enable as many people as possible to attend. We anticipate that the initial get-together will be in the York/Harrogate area, hopefully within the next few months. It is likely to be a weekend lunch or a dinner event. If you would like to be involved, please email your contact details (inc phone, address and CH years) to yorkshireoldblues@googlemail.com or call Megan on 01904 766683.
