"Freedom, We Died For You" by David Miller

Freedom, We Died For You - David Miller

Over 2,000 Old Blues served in the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy in World War Two, of whom 197 died. A further 15 were civilians caught up in the conflict, mostly in the bombing. Their names are on the Dining Hall War Memorial and there is a ceremony on every Remembrance Sunday, but who were they, the real people behind each of those names? This major addition to Christ’s Hospital literature tells the story of each of them, tracing their lives, and placing each death in context. It is a story that excites both sorrow and pride: sadness that so many lives, most of them young, were cut short, a few within months of leaving school, but tempered by pride that they did their duty. Running through virtually all these stories are two themes: leadership by example and from the front; and, not unrelated, of service to others, especial-ly those under their command. Read more ...

Picture of a CD

Requiem In Blue CD - by Harvey Brough,
performed by the pupils of Christ's Hospital.

Requiem in Blue is an amazing amalgam of classical, jazz, blues and folk styles that combine to give voice to an outpouring of deep emotion. This recording is a professional, studio production of the piece first performed by Christ's Hospital to rave reviews at the Barbican concert in 2003 to mark the 450th anniversary. The performers include Schola Cantorum, jazz and classical vocalists, senior members of the Junior Girls' Choir and some fine jazz instrumentalists as well as Harvey Brough himself on guitar.

The cost of this CD is £6 including UK p&p. (contact the office for overseas prices)
